“It was brilliant and exciting,

nerve-wracking and surprising”

just one of the comments from a previous broadcast

Exchange Radio will be taking to the air  this spring.  Now in its sixth year, this popular project offers young people the chance to make a radio programme which will be aired in March through the studios of Hospital Radio Norwich.

Schools and organisations working with young people, are allocated an hour in which they can broadcast using a mixture of live and pre-recorded materials.  The students are involved in planning the content, researching content and recording.  Cross-curricular activity is encouraged – jingles can be written and performed by students, English and ICT involved in scripts. History, geography and any other subjects could be featured.

This enterprising activity gives the young people a wide range of life skills:  their organisational skills are developed as well as time management and problem solving.  Communication skills are enhanced not only for the presenters but also for the whole team.  And what a boost to their confidence and self esteem!

“What was good about Exchange Radio was realising that all the hard effort we put into it stands out”

Jade, a year 5 pupil from Reepham Primary School

Some schools will be using Exchange Radio as part of the new Creative and Media Diploma.  Some schools use it for ‘listening and speaking’.  Others use it for enterprising learning as creativity, using initiative, decision making and team working are just some of the skills required to undertake a broadcast.
